We wanted to let you know that there will be a "soft opening" of the butterfly garden this coming Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This mini-event is being promoted via the FOWP Facebook page, but we realized that not everyone on the committee is on Facebook. Although we had planned to hold off on a cleanup until later April or even early May, several close looks at the garden have revealed that some of the plants are struggling to break through what seems to be an exceptionally dense leaf cover in spots. Very tall stems, particularly in the last expansion area (near lawn bowling), are also blocking new growth of some of the smaller plants. Additionally, there is a mini-invasion of lesser celandine in the front section of the garden. Removal is difficult because violets are also emerging in the same area.
Please let us know if you are available to help! Even a half-hour would be appreciated! If you are able to help, please consider bringing your own clipper, lopper and/or trowel. Rich Rockwell is bringing his mulcher to help with the leaves.
